A group of bystanders rushed to rescue a mother and her baby after their vehicle became partially submerged in a ditch Sunday night in Georgia.
One of the rescuers, Ayana Robinson, shared video of the dramatic rescue. She said she and others were driving along a street in the city of Hinesville around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when they spotted a vehicle halfway submerged in floodwater.
The woman said the driver was inside the vehicle, crying while speaking with a 911 dispatcher.
She said she ran through water that reached her stomach and asked the mother to roll down the back window so she could reach the baby. When the window would not open, she ran to the rear driver's side door, pulled it open, unbuckled the child from a car seat and carried the baby to safety.
The rescuer said she handed the baby to a man who identified himself as the child's father. She then returned to the vehicle, where her sister and a friend were already helping the mother get out safely.
She said police arrived a short time later and left after confirming the mother and child were safely out of the vehicle.
