Among the twelve dead was beloved Garifuna musician Aurelio Martínez, whose songs had carried the voice of his people far beyond the  country’s borders. Two children, a French citizen, and a U.S. national were also confirmed among the victims, turning a local tragedy into an international heartbreak.
