5 Natural Ways to Lower Blood Pressure and Treat Hypertension

If you frequently experience severe headaches, fatigue, an irregular heartbeat, and chest pain, you likely have hypertension, or high blood pressure. This condition can be caused by stress, lack of sleep, obesity, or other underlying conditions, and sometimes even healthy people suffer from it. Fortunately, there are some simple techniques that can help you relax your blood vessels and muscles to help keep your blood pressure under control.

1. Soak your feet in warm water and baking soda.
Let’s start with one of the most popular remedies: soaking your feet in warm water can help rebalance the temperature and pressure in your upper body. Simply fill a bucket or basin with warm water. Then sit on a chair and soak your feet in the water for 10-15 minutes. The blood from your head will move to your feet, and your blood pressure will slowly return to normal. Adding two or three tablespoons of baking soda will make it even more relaxing.

2. Rest in Savasana Pose.
Savasana, or Corpse Pose, can help reduce your heart rate and significantly lower your blood pressure. Lie on your back, close your eyes, and try to relax every muscle in your body. Rest in this pose for about 10-15 minutes. You should feel much better by the end. In addition to bringing your blood pressure back to normal, it will also help balance the nervous system.3. Drink water regularly.

In some cases, hypertension can be caused by dehydration. When you’re dehydrated, your blood volume decreases, and your peripheral resistance, conversely, increases.
To avoid this condition, whenever you begin to feel symptoms of hypertension, try drinking a glass or two of pure water. This will help restore adequate blood volume and reduce blood pressure. To avoid dehydration, I remind you that it’s advisable to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day, and not just with meals.

4. Listen to Relaxing Music.
Researchers have found that listening to relaxing music, such as classical, Celtic, or Indian, can help lower blood pressure, especially when combined with breathing exercises or meditation. This is because this type of music has a calming effect on the body and reduces the stress hormone cortisol. Suitable music is often without lyrics and repeats at regular intervals.

5. Breathe through the left nostril only.
Abdominal breathing can be achieved by breathing deeply through the left nostril. This will help control your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels and reducing stress hormones.

How to do it:

Sit on the floor or in a chair in a comfortable position with your back straight.
Place your left hand on your abdomen.
Cover your right nostril with your right thumb.
Take a deep breath through your left nostril, hold for a few seconds, then exhale.
Breathe slowly and deeply through your left nostril only for about 3-5 minutes.
